The Five Star Bar prides itself on creating a community of bands and fans working together to keep our wonderful little piece of the LA music landscaper thriving. We respect you so please show us the same. We are a laid back venue but we won’t accept any attitudes that conflict with everyone having a great time. If you have a problem and can discuss it like an adult then we’re able to have a conversation. If not then you’ll be kindly removed from the building. BOOKING If you want to play here then the first thing to do is come down to the venue and introduce yourself. We’re more apt to book your band if we know you. Come support the venue, the other bands, the scene. That’s what we’re all about. Sure we have to make money to keep the doors open and bands coming back but more important is the sense of community. So visit the venue and check us out before you send me music or a pitch for a residency. Remember it has to make sense for both of us. If your band is interested in playing on a end of week event we simply ask that you show some sort of prior show that you can draw a minimum of 25 people paid to see your band. It’s simple really – we all need to work together and we need people through the door to pay you and the club itself or we have nothing. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE OR LOST OR STOLEN EQUIPMENT!! PROMOTION We don’t believe in pay to play but simple and strong promoting the old fashioned way. Some ideas: – Print out flyers and hand out to your friends – Invite friends to the event page on Facebook & repost repost repost to all your social media channels – Put up posters around town (legal places that you have asked permission of course) – Put up a poster in the front window of the bar (arrange with bar manager) We try to keep the door fee low. It’s usually around $5 but sometimes larger shows require a little higher fee. I’m sure you understand that in order to bring you top talent we need to be able to pay. We will consider all styles of music including punk, reggae, alternative, country, hardcore, emo, punk, indie, pop, acoustic, spoken word, etc. We book try to 4-6 bands a night with 30 to 45 minute sets with 15 minute changeovers. Shows typically start around 8 or 9PM and end at 1:45AM. We have a full sound system including 18 channel mixing board, plenty of mics and 3 monitors (2 front and 1 drum) The stage is 12’x18′. Flyer Rules All bands are responsible for making their own flyers and take full responsibility of the following rules: 1. NO PROFANITY 2. NO SEXUAL CONNOTATIONS 3. NO SLANDEROUS WORDS OR PICTURES 3. DO NOT POST ON STREET LIGHTS, TELEPHONE POLES, ANY PUBLIC BUILDINGS, CAR WINDSHIELDS, BUS STOPS 4. DO NOT HAND OUT FLYERS IN FRONT OF CLUB DAY OF SHOW 5. GET APPROVAL OF PROPRIETOR OR PRINCIPAL TO POST ON BULLETIN BOARDS, WINDOWS, COUNTER-TOPS OR AT SCHOOLS
